Anxious Adventures: Auction Edition

Thursday, September 24

Auctions are a rather interesting way of buying beautiful things but research is key, get as much information as possible. This way of shopping IS for you, wether you are looking for things to resell or to furnish your home. I have seen, unsold,  items identical to the style and props occupying the more popular blogs and magazines including Condé Nast.

I need this on my wall.

  • I’m quite cautious about spending, so, a rigid budget is important to me.  Even if you have endless funds I'd still suggest sticking to your guns and try to stay with in budget, its a downward spiral once you pass it - trust me, I know...  All the same do trust your gut and your eye when choosing a list of items.

  • Ensuring you know of each item, so that you cannot be surprised by something you love but haven’t  had chance to think about it. (Make notes,  your maximum bid, item number remind yourself to be mindful in the moment and not get over excited.)

  • It was a last minute decision for me to go along to this auction but I luckily had chucked on a patterned scarf which turns out to be useful in getting attention, keeping the cold at bay and if you get scared to disappear into.

  • Be quiet, be clear and be calm. The auctioneer will not be afraid of “banter”  especially if you’re drawing attention to yourself, talking at anything more than a whisper is frowned upon so for us sometimes quiet and awkward people it can be a stellar socializing opportunity ;)

Its actually very exciting once things get rolling, expect some refreshments and interesting people to chat with and perhaps have a second look at the unsold items…

Let me know what you think of auctions and suggest any I should check out!

Anxious Adventures: Tate Summer Party Edition

Sunday, June 14

At the start of summer I received an invite from Tate Britain to their annual Summer Party, needless to say, this was an instant RSVP but I didn’t quite know until I reached the Millbank Entrance what I’d let myself in for. The arts, eccentrics and events that fuel my hope and enthusiasm socially keep me going through the stormier seasons.
